Weapons classes
Unfortunately our bo instructor Terry Bradford 6th dan has become unavailable on Wednesday nights in the near future so we have had to cancel the remaining bo sessions. We might be able to arrange further sessions later in the year. As a consequence we have shifted forward the last escrima stick class. This will be on Wednesday 23rd June.
Back to normal term times
From the beginning of term on Monday 28th June we are back to our normal times and classes i.e. Monday 7.30 -9.30. Wednesday 7-9 p.m.
Lion Bushido Tournament
The tournament is on Sunday 31st August. Anyone who is interested in entering should do so. Attached is a copy of the rules from 2006 and Sensei Alex’s summary of the point sparring rules (condensed rules). The same rules were used last year. There may be minor changes to the rules this year. You will be advised of any changes as soon as we hear.
A NUMBER OF DATES AND MATTERS TO NOTE
Hi everybody – there are a number of dates that you should write in your diary and there are a number of matters that you should note.
1. Monday night – change in times over semester break: Training on Monday nights over semester break (starting 2nd June and finishing on Monday 21st July) will start and finish an hour earlier i.e. they will be from 6.30 – 8.30 p.m.
2. Wednesday night – weapons over semester break: Weapons calendar: We are running intensive weapons on Wednesday nights over the semester break and a little bit afterwards. If you want to get familiar with weapons – here is your chance. Weapons are supplied. (Philipino sticks – Bo stave)
These classes will run at 7.20 p.m on Wednesdays at the Lazar room on the following dates: 4 June, 11 June, 18 June, 25 June, 2 July, 9 July, 16 July, 23 July, 30 July, 3 September
3. Gradings: This Monday training (2nd June) a number of students will be grading for yellow belt. To grade you must first be checked by an instructor that you are ready and you must pay the grading fee ($25 for yellow belt and then going up by $5 for each subsequent belt – paid to a committee member). The grading fee covers you for all tests that you do for that belt i.e so if you need to repeat you do not pay any more.
4. There will be further grading days over the semester break and/or shortly thereafter. It is a matter of arranging them and making sure you are ready.
5. Monday 9th June – no training: There will be no training on Monday 9th June – Queens birthday weekend.
6. Lion Bushido tournament – 31st August: The Lion Bushido tournament is on 31st August. This is the one tournament we do each year. We concentrate on this tournament because it is safe and well organized. It has kata competition and non-contact sparring at each belt level. Everyone should consider entering it just for the experience – don’t worry about how you do. Our training is going to be very much directed towards it in the coming months. Everyone should bring a mouth guard to training and buy shin and fist protectors – they are available from the club and are fairly cheap.
7. Annual general meeting – 10th September: We are planning to hold the clubs annual general meeting on Wednesday 10th September. Please consider nominating for a position. The club is going through a difficult period following changes in funding from the Sports Association. We really need enthusiastic committee who are willing to put in for a year to raise membership.

Just a reminder that there is a bo (long) sticks class on this Wednesday coming up (14 May). There will be bo sticks available, however if you own one please bring it along with you.
Please note that this class will be held at the Lazar room (opposite our usual training venue) from 7.20 to 9.20pm.
